Did most of you wire up your boxes outside or inside the distributor? I've been running around for awhile now with the wires going through a drilled hole in the dist. cap. I think moisture has been working it's way into the dist. and wreaking havoc. I was thinking of splicing into/cutting the coil wires outside of the dist. on that big harness. Has anyone done this? Or do most of you guys hack up the dist. cap to route the MSD wiring?

That's not going to work. The MSD gets its trigger signal from the igniter output. If your coil is in the cap, that signal doesn't exist outside the distributor.
The MSD's orange and black output wires have to connect directly to the coil terminals.
You could remote mount the coil, though.

I have mine in the distributor. It's actually not a bad idea to have holes drilled in your cap for ventilation. This is what i've learned from T.O.O.

OK, I guess I'll just keep it wired up the way it is right now. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have the universal BTM. With my universal BTM I don't think it gets a trigger signal from the igniter. Only the orange wire gets connected directly to the coil. You disconnect the white/blue wire from the coil and connect the white wire to it. The red wire splices into the black/yellow wire. The black wire just gets grounded anywhere. I figured I could do the hookup outside the distributor. If I did it outside, I would be cutting only the white/blue wire. Thanks for the input.

John: I was thinking that since the Honda igniter is a "dumb" module and fires on the rising edge, it may be possible to intercept the ECU signal before the module.
What are your thoughts on this?

What I did on mine was added 2 wires for the ingnitor thru the harness that goes into the distributor. Looks absolutely stock and I didnt have to hack up the distributor cap. As for a vent.. the cap already has a vent built in and it doesnt allow moisture to get in. Those are just my 2 pennies.

Marc: The MSD has a 47 ohm, 5W pullup resistor in the points input circuit. This would present a 300ma load to the ECU. Most small transistors can handle that, but I would want to check the specs on it first. Maybe Jeff at Zdyne knows.

John: OK, I'll check on that. Now, if that isn't a problem for the ECU, the timing would still be correct because of the 'dumb' igniter, right? In otherwords, the MSD will operate correctly from the ECU side of the module?
